Hospitals are required by law to post pricing for medical procedures and treatments on their web site. Additionally, Colorado is one of 20 states that have mandated the development of consumer-friendly tools to help Coloradans navigate health care costs. The Colorado All Payer Claims Database (CO APCD) collects data that reflects the majority of insured Coloradans. More than 93% of Coloradans have some form of health insurance. The database includes all major commercial payers, Medicaid and Medicare and is searchable by zip code.

As a result, communities, organizations and individuals have access to essential cost and quality of care, as well as utilization insights. Everything from surgery costs to hospital quality of care is covered.

Further, a joint project of the Colorado Hospital Association and the Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies, Division of Insurance provides consumers with more information about average hospital charges and average reimbursement rates paid by insurance companies or health maintenance organizations. The report includes the 25 most common inpatient medical conditions and surgical procedures performed by hospitals.
