Swedish Medical Center first in Colorado to use new brain aneurysm treatment

HCA Healthcare/HealthONE’s Swedish Medical Center is the first hospital in Colorado to use a new aneurysms embolization system to treat wide neck bifurcation aneurysm — an abnormal bulging of a blood vessel in the brain.

If an aneurysm ruptures, serious consequences including severe functional disability, loss of cognitive function and death may occur. These types of wide neck bifurcation aneurysms may account for nearly 35 percent of all aneurysms and are historically more difficult to treat due to their location at the place where a blood vessel branches into two parts. However using this new device, surgeons at Swedish are able to treat these types of aneurysms safely through minimally invasive endovascular techniques.
